Sir John Key was a stationer, elected as Lord Mayor in 1830, this address relates to his standing at the 1832 General Election, where he was elected as the member for the City of London, though he retired in August the following year. He was relatively liberal, supporting the Reform Bill, abolition of the Corn Laws, equality in law for Ireland and the abolition of the slave trade
