[Receipt for Sale of Hogs]. Direct to Me at Barnet, Hertfordshire – Hogs Sold for Mr. Michie, the 22nd Day of March, 1784. London: Printed By H. Turpin, 1784. First Edition. 16mo (Oblong). Unbound. Receipt / Invoice. Good+. Part printed part manuscript receipt, for the selling of a hog, approximately 200mm x 160mm in size.
Slightly creased to old folds, with a few small nicks and tears to edges, but generally quite bright and clean.
Receipt for the selling of a hog, (the reverse appears to mention the selling of a cow, but it could be a sow), the hog being sold on behalf of Mr Michie by Leonard Dell, for £4.6s.6d., with a deduction of six pence for the taking of the money and pens and straw for the animal.
Almost certainly a standard form for such transactions, to be filled in by the interested parties.
The Barnet Hog Market initially controlled the sale of nearly all London’s meat, but by this period in time it had been overtaken by the nearby Finchley Hog Market
