Lightly browned, foxed and soiled, central horizontal crease, small split from the dot above the ‘i’ in ‘correction’.

Advertisement for builders to tender for the building of an extension to the Alnwick ‘House of Correction’.

The printer was E.[dward] Walker, of 54 Pilgrim Street, Newcastle. He came to Newcastle in 1795 and was “probably the most productive commercial printer in Newcastle” (Hunt, The Book Trade in Northumberland and Durham to 1860, page 92).

An Account of all the Gaols, Houses of Correction and Penitentiaries, in the United Kingdom printed in 1819, shows the Alnwick House of Correction having space for twenty-four prisoners (page 30).
