[Ludlow, Edmund]. Memoirs of Edmund Ludlow with a Collection of Original Papers and the Case of King Charles the First. ill. Ravenet. London: T. Becket and P.A. De Hondt and T. Cadell, 1771. First Thus. 4to. Full Calf. Good. xii, 558pp, 19pp, , original calf boards, later rebacked and recornered, raised bands, spine in six panels, old title label to second panel, date in gilt to foot.
Spine very slightly faded, very minor rubbing to extremities. Text lightly browned throughout, occasional light staining to edges, but generally fairly clean. Engraved portrait frontispiece of Ludlow by Ravenet.
’King Charles His Case’ by John Cook has a divisional titlepage and separate pagination, but continuous register. Presumably published for Thomas Hollis, with his characteristic title page and liberty cap motif, but there is no mention of this book in Bond’s book on Hollis. Ludlow was also the subject of one of Hollis’s ‘liberty-prints’ (See Bond, page 82).
