Four volumes complete – Volume One – , v-vii, , 9-375pp, ; Volume Two – , 411pp, , Volume Three – , 400pp and Volume Four – , 401pp, , 1-106pp. Uniform contemporary full tree calf, smooth backs divided into six panels, morocco title label to second panel, oval volume label to fifth, remaining panels gilt with quadrilobe central tool and volute corner pieces, gilt roll to board edges.
Slightly chipped to spine ends, outer joints slightly split but all holding well, corners bumped and worn. Minor browning internally, with some light off setting from engraved frontispieces, but generally quite bright and clean. Previous owners armorial book plate to front pastedowns (Sir Edmund Antrobus). Each volume with engraved frontispiece, and with four portraits in volume one as called for, lacking the half titles.
Originally issued as a quarto in 1777, this is the second octavo edition, with the appendix in volume four.
