[003272] [Salvation Army]. Souvenir in Commemoration of the Salvation Army Congress of All Nations in London, June, 1914. London: Burgess, 1914. First Edition. Folio. Unbound. Commemorative Tissue. Fair. Single sided printed tissue, approximately 365mm x 370mm in size.

Torn with loss to upper right hand corner and left hand side, creased and slightly spotted, but generally quite bright and clean.

The first congress to be held after William Booth’s death in 1912 and the last one until 1978.

The printer was Burgess, who specialised in these tissues, and was printed at York Place, Strand. Generally the decorative borders were printed in Japan, with the overprinting which was “commonly primitive .. and display a … disregard for niceties of typography and spelling” (Rickards, page 221) done locally
