Full speckled calf, raised bands, spines in six panels, morocco title label to second panel, volume label to third, remaining panels with a triple fillet border, lozenge shaped centre piece and leaf corner pieces in gilt and gilt roll to board edges.

Spine ends chipped with loss, lacking end bands, outer joints split but holding well, corners bumped and worn, scrape with loss to leather on lower cover of volume two. Internally some light dust staining, but generally fairly clean, bottom corner missing of Ii4 (not affecting text), and (X4) is absent, but the catchword is correct. In the second volume Cccc is missing bottom corner (not affecting text).

With ten full-page engravings in Juvenal, and two in Persius. Title in red and black, previous owners’ (Falle) book plate to front pastedowns.

This is a reprint of the 1685 Utrecht edition, expanded with a new frontispiece (Dibdin), Brunet calls it ‘tres-estimee’.
