Slightly later uniform full morocco by Robert Riviere, wide flat bands, spines in five panels, title lettered direct to second panel, subtitle to fourth with date to foot, remaining panels with leaf and volute corner pieces, covers with triple fillet outer border in gilt, with an inner frame made up of a blind triple fillet and volute roll, double fillet in gilt to edges and inner edges, primrose endpapers, a.e.g.
Spines faded, extremities rubbed, covers with some light white stains, minor discolouring, (have possibly been slightly damp at some stage?), and with impression marks to leather, small split to front outer joint of volume one, but holding well. Internally some light foxing, but generally fairly bright and clean. Previous owners armorial bookplate to front pastedown (John Brymer), with the same owners small ink stamp to titles.
First published in Oxford in 1817 (Herbert 1658), this is a later and probably cheaper edition issued without the plates
