Slightly later full calf, smooth backs, morocco label to head with title, volume and sub-title, remainder of spine gilt with repeated volute device either side of a central line, date to foot, covers with thick and thin fillets bordering a triple fillet in blind, with fleuron corner pieces, gilt roll to edges and inner edges, marbled endpapers and all edges marbled.
Spines slightly faded, rubbed to extremities and spine of volume five, corners lightly bumped. Internally, lightly foxed throughout, though never intolerable. Previous owners’ bookplates to front pastedowns and front marbled endpapers. This set does not have the set of illustrations “sometimes present” (Bareham and Gatrell), they were sold separately and are not called for, an attractive set.
