Contemporary full calf, spines in five panels with wide flat bands, title in gilt to second panel, volume to third, remaining panels with volute corner pieces and central roundel with emanating flower heads all in blind, covers with single fillet bordering blind roll with another single fillet frame, gilt roll to edges, triple fillet to inner edges, marbled endpapers with matching marbled edges.
Rubbed, a few minor splits to joints but all holding well, lower cover of volume one and upper cover of volume two scratched with small amounts of loss. Internally volume one lacks blank endpaper, some light browning and occasional finger soiling, but generally quite bright and clean. With engraved portrait frontispiece and facsimile of letter to volume one.
