The first of two ascents made by Charles Green the balloonist (1785-1870) in Paris, this being his 227th ascent. Green had, the previous month, set a new world record for the distance travelled in a balloon, taking off from Vauxhall Gardens, and eventually landing in the Duchy of Nassau (in Germany), approximately 500 miles. Before returning home he stopped off in Paris, and made this ascent, the balloon now with ‘Nassau’ in its name
