Fair. c.[200]p, largely manuscript, but with a few printed pieces tipped in, n.d., c.1870 onwards, no place, but probably the English midlands, certainly Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire
Contemporary sheep, heavily worn and chipped, especially to back strip, corners bumped and worn. Internally browned, some foxing and staining, especially to fore edge of first half of the book, but without loss of sense, one page torn, one or two pages a little loose, a couple excised, and a couple blank except for pencil scribbles, with a couple of inserted pages
Recipes and receipts in several hands, originally late nineteenth century (?), some more modern, and some probably mid-twentieth century
Original ownership name of Caroline Peacock to head of front pastedown, with later ownership (?) label of the Matron at the Home for Waifs and Strays in Arnold, Nottingham, to lower pastedown.
Receipts include a chilblain ointment, the preservation of leather, and washing powder; with the recipes, including many of the usual pies, jellies etc., also include a couple of local delicacies, Grantham gingerbread, and Bothamsall pies, as well as several French recipes, pickled eggs, Spanish cream, brandy snaps, Scotch woodcock and a Bengal chutney
A well used cook book, added to by several users over a decent period of time, with interesting East Midlands provenance
