Description
[003490] Burke, J. Bernard. A.L.S. From Burke to Captain White. Dublin: No Publisher, 1880. First Edition. 8vo. Unbound. Letter. Good. [2]p with conjugate blank, manuscript letter from J.[ohn] Bernard Burke, to a Captain White.
Dated (in another hand) 14th or 4th January, 1880, Burke writes that “The Visitation of Seats and Arms has been out of print many a long year; and it is well nigh impossible to come across a perfect set. Several copies were destroyed in a fire at the Printers. It is just possible I may find a set in the hands of a friend who does not appreciate it as you would, and if this hope be not delusive it will be a great pleasure to me to present it to you. By the way, have ?Stanisons sent you my new edition of The Peerage? I told them to do so. Every kind wish of the New Year, Yours most sincerely, J. Bernard Burke”.
Burke (1814-1892), was the son of John Burke (of ‘Burke’s Peerage’ fame), he was appointed Ulster King of Arms in 1853, knighted in 1854 and appointed Keeper of the State Papers of Ireland in 1855
