Minor bump to bottom edge of upper board, very slightly rubbed to extremities. DJ spine faded, with tears to spine and upper joint, chipping to spine ends and a small hole to spine catching the ‘ebs’ in ‘Debs’, light water stain to foot of lower panel with small amount of associated staining, internally bright and clean. With a photographic frontispiece and three other photographic illustrations
Debs (1855-1926), was a socialist and trade unionist, working on the railways, he was instrumental in setting up the Socialist Party of America, and ran a campaign to be President of the USA on five occasions (see Fink, Biographical Dictionary of American Labor Leaders, pages 74-75). He was jailed for three years for violating the Espionage Law in a speech in Ohio, see Suvak, Memoirs of American Prisons: An Annotated Bibliography, 391; Egbert, Persons, and Bassett, Socialism and American Life, Volume 2, page 149
