Description
[005050] Haselmore, Anthony. The Economist, or New Family Cookery. London: T. & J. Allman, 1824. Second Edition? 12mo. Hardback. Good. [2], plates, [1], ii-li, [1], 2-524pp. Modern quarter morocco and boards, smooth back, title label to spine (with author misspelled)
Externally a small patch of whitening to front leather, otherwise very good. Internally the frontispiece and engraved title are lightly browned with some foxing and off setting, the plates are lightly foxed, but otherwise quite bright and clean, printing flaw to page 291
With an engraved frontispiece, engraved title, and seventeen plates, but with two copies of plate number ten, and lacking plate eleven. In two ‘parts’, with the supplement running from pages 369-524, Oxford notes that the book “without the supplement, was reprinted as Clements’ edition of the New Family Cookery”
Uncommon, with only two copies, both defective in the same way, in auction records. Seemingly the second edition or impression, with 1824 on the engraved title, Simon notes an edition of 1823, and there are the two copies in auction records (almost certainly the same copy, dated 1823)
Bitting, page 218; Oxford, page 155; and see Simon BG 821 (for the 1823 edition)
