Spines lightly faded, cloth slightly soiled, minor rubbing to extremities, endpapers lightly browned, occasional hint of foxing, browning to pages viii and ix in volume one from a newspaper cutting, tear to top margin of I-I⁴, but generally quite bright and clean

Three portrait illustrations as called for, though the portraits of Kropotkin have been misbound before the half-title instead of opposite the title in volume one and after the title in volume two.

A decent set of a work difficult to find in nice condition, first published in The Atlantic Monthly, September 1898-September 1899
