Description
[005106] Southey, Robert. Madoc. London and Edinburgh: Longman, Hurst, Rees, and Orme and A. Constable and Co., 1805. First Edition. 4to. Hardback. Good. [7], viii-ix, [6], 2-434; 437-557pp, [1]. Contemporary covers, later rebacked, raised bands, spine in six panels, author and title in gilt to second panel, remaining panels with central gilt device, covers with a panel design, spot pattern marbled endpapers, all edges marbled
Slightly rubbed to extremities, but generally externally very good. Internally the text is lightly browned throughout, some light foxing, staining, and offsetting, once or twice heavier, especially to the sectional title printed on thicker paper. Small chip to the top margin of A3, old stain from silk marker (no longer present) to 2I1v and 2I2r. Former owner’s name to ffep, small pen mark to title. Without pages 435-436, but the signatures are correct, so this is presumably a mistake in pagination
With an engraved title and an engraved frontispiece, and a sectional title with a vignette (Madoc in Aztlan)
NCBEL III: 256
