There appears to be some dispute about what constitutes a ‘plate’ in this work, there appear to be sixteen without text, including one with applique paper flowers, one on silver card, and one on plastic with silver card backing, amongst others, with the text profusely illustrated, with many photomontages. Chapters include ‘Writing and Designing’, ‘Geometry’, ‘Calligraphy and Typography’, and ‘Processes of Printing’
“Mise En Page is an impressive piece of production. Printed in blue and black, it contains numerous tipped-in plates with some outrageous pieces of finishing. Foils, embossing, hand-painting, different stocks (including wood veneer) and enamelling are just some of the arsenal of devices on display … This book on the art of layout was a highly influential publication, which promoted the ‘moderne’ style of design” (Godfrey, Bibliographic – 100 Classic Graphic Design Books, page 74)
