Dated Thursday March 16th, 1848, it admits the bearer and friends to the ‘public trial’ of a Milner fire resistant safe, in Mr. F. Symonds’s Close, opposite Worcester College in Oxford, commencing at 11am

Thomas Milner, and later with his son William, started producing standard safes and strong boxes. They then became pioneers in fire-resistant safes, securing patents for innovative insulation techniques such as using asbestos, mica, or alum to generate steam inside the safe during a fire, protecting its contents. The company gained international acclaim at the Great Exhibition in London in 1851, where their safes were showcased and tested live for fire resistance
