Based on the novel by Howard Fast, the screenplay was by the blacklisted Dalton Trumbo. The film was directed by Stanley Kubrick, and starred Kirk Douglas, Jean Simmons, Laurence Olivier, Charles Laughton, Tony Curtis, and Peter Ustinov
