[003498] [Treasury Receipt]. Treasury Bill to Henry Potts Esq. For ‘Secret and Special Services’. No Place: No Publisher, 1765. First Edition. 4to. Unbound. Receipt / Invoice. Fair. Single sided manuscript receipt, approximately 180mm x 280mm in size.

Browned, loss to right hand at foot, not affecting sense, chipped to corners, lightly soiled to head, creased, tear to fold, slightly chipped, text crossed through in ink, presumably on payment. Reverse countersigned by Potts ‘received the full contents of this order, Hen. Potts’. Receipt for the amount of £1615 and 5 shillings, received by Potts for ‘secret and special services’.

Several other payments to Potts are recorded in the Journals of the House of Commons, £4139, 10 shillings and 6 pence in 1761, this one in 1764, 1765/6 of £4845 and 15 shillings, 1767/8 of £1641 and 10 shillings and in 1768/9, £6566.

We have been unable to find out what these payments were for, but the amounts are certainly significant
